Applications are now open for the seventh cohort of the Nivishe Mental Health Fellowship. The deadline for submissions is September 18, 2026, according to the program's announcement.

This is a 12-week virtual fellowship designed for both emerging and established changemakers. It aims to move participants beyond basic awareness to a deeper understanding of mental health from African and global perspectives. Sessions are led by experts, practitioners, researchers, and leaders in the field.

Program Focus and Structure

The fellowship explores a wide range of topics, from community mental health and lived experience to neuropsychology. The curriculum is designed to help fellows understand the complex influences of the brain, mind, environment, and society on wellbeing. Organizers state the program is grounded in African realities.

It is not merely an academic exercise. The fellowship is framed as a space for learning how to act on mental health knowledge. It creates opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives, strengthen leadership skills, build meaningful networks, and develop practical approaches for addressing challenges within one's own community.

The Capstone Project

The fellowship concludes with a mandatory Community Impact Capstone Project. Here, fellows must turn their learning into direct action by designing and implementing an initiative that reaches community members. Previous fellows have led activities including community dialogues, radio programs, awareness campaigns, school interventions, and outreach activities.

The program believes knowledge should create a ripple effect. The goal is to let one fellow to influence hundreds of others and contribute to lasting change. A key requirement for the capstone project is the potential to reach and positively influence a minimum of 200 community members.

Eligibility and Selection

The program seeks passionate individuals committed to eliminating mental health disparities and promoting wellbeing in their communities. Applicants must be 18 years or older. While primarily aimed at young leaders aged 18-35, those above 35 with a strong track record of community leadership, advocacy, or social impact are strongly encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates are engaged in or interested in fields related to mental health, community development, advocacy, education, healthcare, research, or humanitarian work. They should hold or aspire to leadership positions with the ability to influence positive change. Applicants must value diversity and inclusion and have access to a computer and reliable internet for the virtual sessions.

Applications will be assessed based on these criteria. For more information and to apply, prospective fellows are directed to the official Nivishe Mental Health Fellowship website.
