Texas Farm Bureau Opens Spring 2027 Teaching
Texas Farm Bureau offers four $6,000 scholarships for agricultural education students who will student teach in spring 2027. Applications are now open.

Applications are now open for Texas Farm Bureau's Mia Balko Student Teaching Scholarships. The organization is offering four $6,000 awards to senior agricultural education students who will complete their off-campus student teaching assignment in the spring 2027 semester.
According to a report from the Texas Farm Bureau, the application window runs from August 28 to October 30, 2026. Scholarship recipients are expected to be announced in December.
Dr. Clarissa Darby, TFB Youth Outreach coordinator, explained the program's purpose. "Preparing the next generation of educators to take on the role of an agricultural science teacher and engaging young students about agriculture is important to Texas Farm Bureau," Darby said. She noted the scholarship helps support college students pursuing this career.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Applicants must meet specific criteria. They must be student teaching during the spring 2027 semester and be part of a Texas Farm Bureau member-family. This membership must be maintained throughout the scholarship period.
The application process requires several components. Students must submit a written essay, answer several short-answer questions, and provide a recommendation form from a college or university supervisor. Full details and the application link are available on the Texas Farm Bureau scholarships website.
The Financial Challenge of Student Teaching
Student teaching presents significant financial hurdles. The semester-long experience often requires pre-service teachers to relocate or commute long distances. Many are unable to maintain outside employment during this critical period.
The Mia Balko scholarship is designed to ease these burdens. The $6,000 award helps offset expenses, allowing recipients to focus on gaining valuable classroom experience instead of worrying about finances.
Supporting the Future of Agricultural Education
Texas Farm Bureau views the scholarship as an investment in the future. Agricultural science teachers educate future generations about agriculture while also serving as mentors and community leaders.
"Agricultural science teachers are critical to developing students’ understanding of and appreciation for agriculture," stated Dr. Darby. She emphasized that by supporting new teachers, the bureau is also supporting the future of agriculture itself.
The scholarships are awarded each spring and fall. The upcoming cycle is specifically for those teaching in spring 2027.
