Missouri S&T graduate Drew Barringhaus

Drew Barringhaus, a member of Missouri S&T’s Class of 2026, has established an endowed scholarship to assist current and future students at the university. He earned his bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering in May and worked with the Miner Alumni Association to create the Barringhaus Nuclear Leadership Scholarship shortly after graduation. The scholarship is designed to support students from various engineering disciplines, including chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, and nuclear engineering. Chemistry and physics majors are also eligible to apply. Preference in the selection process will be given to members of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha. Barringhaus said he felt obligated to create the opportunity after receiving extensive support during his own education at Missouri S&T. He credited numerous organizations for helping him remain largely free of debt and focus on his studies, including the American Nuclear Society, the Alpha Kappa Educational Foundation, the Desk & Derrick Educational Trust, and the Department of Energy. While a student, Barringhaus held leadership roles in Pi Kappa Alpha, serving as treasurer and president, and helped the chapter earn the most international awards of all chapters in North America in 2024. He was also involved with the American Nuclear Society and the Alpha Nu Sigma Honor Society, and was a member of Tau Beta Pi and the Order of Omega. He was recognized by S&T’s Mines and Metallurgy Academy as the top nuclear engineering major in the 2026 graduating class and received the Robertson Award as the most outstanding Pi Kappa Alpha graduate of the 2025-26 academic year in North America. After graduation, Barringhaus began his career as a nuclear field engineer with GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy in Wilmington, North Carolina. He views the scholarship and his career as early-stage efforts with potential for growth, saying he would love to help Missouri S&T students by providing the same kind of support he received. The scholarship reflects his commitment to giving back to the university community that supported him. Missouri University of Science and Technology is a STEM-focused research university in Rolla, Missouri, with over 7,000 students and more than 100 degrees across 40 areas of study.
