The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) - Cohort 6 is now accepting applications. This six-month fellowship is designed to train early-career professionals in renewable energy technologies and equip them with the skills needed to address Africa's energy challenges.

The fellowship is run by the Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute (RETTI), in partnership with government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector companies working across Africa's energy value chain. The program aims to address the shortage of trained professionals in the renewable energy sector, which is critical to closing the energy gap in Africa.

## Tracks and Training

The fellowship offers four tracks, each focusing on a different renewable energy technology:

| Track | Description | | --- | --- | | Solar PV | Small-scale, large-scale, and utility-scale solar systems, from household installations to grid-connected plants. | | Onshore Wind | Wind resource assessment, turbine technology, and project development. | | Bioenergy | Biomass and biogas systems, feedstock supply chains, and rural energy applications. | | Hydropower | Small and large hydro systems, feasibility, and grid integration. |

Each track includes expert-led lectures, real case studies, one-on-one mentoring, and a track-specific capstone project. The capstone project allows fellows to design and carry out a project addressing an actual energy access problem in their own community or country.

## Benefits and Opportunities

The AFYEL fellowship offers several benefits and opportunities, including:

- Practitioner-led training in the chosen technology track, taught by working professionals in that field. - A one-month internship placement with a partner organization. - A virtual summit connecting fellows with international mentors, past fellows, and industry and grant partners. - Ongoing access to the AFYEL alumni network and continued opportunities after the fellowship ends.

## Eligibility and Application

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must:

- Be recent graduates in Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building/Construction Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, or Solar Energy (or a closely related field). - Be aged 21-35. - Be a citizen or resident of any African country. - Be able to read, write, and speak English at a working level. - Be able to commit fully to the six-month fellowship and the one-month internship that follows it.
