Eligible categories include U.S. Citizens, permanent residents, and holders of specific visa statuses like J-1 or H-1B valid for the scholarship tenure. Individuals with DACA status, Temporary Protected Status, asylee, or refugee status are also eligible. There is no limit on applicants per institution or laboratory, but previous fellowship recipients cannot apply.

Institutions must be accredited non-profit academic bodies located within New York City. They must conduct original neuroscience research to be considered eligible to host a scholar.
